The domestic wholesale price of rice continued declining between the 15th and 31st of August, reflecting the inflow of newly harvested aus rice in the market in a context of good progress in Aman planting coupled with declining international prices. The rice price decrease is unusual for this period of the year. It indicates that the large private stocks built over the past months are being released. This might continue over the coming weeks if positive domestic and international harvest prospects are confirmed. Rice retail prices remained stable over the same period, signalling an increase in retail margins.
