Subtitle:
[Quality Checking of Dataset, Missing Values and Data File Management]

This topic focuses on how to prepare the dataset for statistical analysis in software packages. It discusses procedures for identifying outliers, and addresses issues pertaining to creating and manipulating data, defining variables, reading data and transforming data using STATA and SPSS.

Any statistical analysis requires quality check by cleaning the dataset.  The session mainly covers how to organize the dataset before statistical analysis in the software packages.  Secondly, it addresses how to identify outliers.  Thirdly, it addresses how to create and manipulate data – such as defining variables, reading data, transforming data, etc.

The applied examples in this document utilize publicly available data from two sources i) Chronic Poverty and Long Term Impact Study in Bangladesh dataset conducted by International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) during 2006-07 which is resurveyed from the 5 thanas from 1994, 1996-07 and 2003 year. ii) Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) 2007 dataset is located in the following directory FAO_final_training_materials\data
