Production forecast of aman rice using crop yield weather regression

Technical Report

Semilogarithmic trend functions were estimated for area, yield and production data of local and HYV Aus, Aman, Boro rice and wheat for the 2000-2001 season. Time series data on area, yield and production of  the crops for twenty years (1980-99) were obtained from the published reports of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. Relevant current data sets were obtained from the Department of Agricultural Extension.

Equations were estimated separately for area, yield and production of each of the Aus crop varieties namely local and HYV, and for total of area and production of the crop. The results showed that total production of Aus had a sharp declining trend, resulting mainly from the sharp decline in area of Aus, particularly local Aus. The total predicted production of Aus for the year 2000-2001 was 12% lower than the actual production and 4% lower than the predicted value of production of the preceding year 1999-2000.
